The Church in Sardis

Revelation 3:1-6

         "To the angel of the church in Sardis write:....."

For context: They have been taken over in two other instances due to the watch guard falling asleep.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF A LIVING CHURCH?

1. A church that uses PAST victories to PROPEL them to do great things for God today. 

verse 1b: "I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead."

2. A church that EVALUATES any area that may be FALLING asleep.

3. A church that never loses sight of what they have RECEIVED and HEARD.

4. A church that is OBEDIENT to the WORD of God. 

 

CHALLENGE:

1. EXAMINE MY ROLE IN THE CHURCH. HOW CAN I GROW IN DOING MY PART?

2. EXAMINE MY WALK WITH THE LORD. HOW CAN I GROW CLOSER TO GOD?

HOW DOES COMPROMISE HAPPEN?

1. The absence of Discernment

           Discernment means the ABILITY to JUDGE well.

           Hebrews 5:14

           1 John 4:1

God is simply WARNING us from what brings DESTRUCTION to us. 

          1 Kings 3:9

 

CHALLENGE: ASK GOD FOR DISCERNMENT AND EXPOSE ANY EXCUSES

Today we are blessed to begin a new sermon series titled The Seven. Pastor Jack preaches on The Church of Ephesus with an intro verse that can me found in Revelation 2:1-7.  We are given two key points;

1. Love God
2. Love people

What can we do about it?

• Consider how far you've fallen- Evaluate your Heart for God and his people
• Repent- Express your intentions & desire to honor God 
• Do what you did at first- Do what you Know you Should 

There are three key steps to repentance: acknowledge my specific sin, asking for forgiveness, and declaring your desire to not do it anymore. 

In closing OUR challenge is this; Ask yourself about the love God is asking of each of us. Where do you need to grow? What will you do?

Bold: How to Approach God the Right Way

In conclusion to the sermon series BOLD, Pastor Jack gives insightful ways to Approach God the Right Way!

To Not Believe is to approach God the Wrong way. 

• Faith: Believe as you approach

Hebrews 11:6 " And without faith it is impossible to please him..."

• Authority: Never lose sight of the Authority that Jesus has

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them," All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."

• Humility: know your Place and His 

Matthew 8:8 The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed."

Pastor Jack closes this series with a challenge to Share with 2 people this week How to approach God and how not to. 

The Wrong Way to Approach God

Centered around 2 Corinthians 3:12, Pastor Jack shares with us what the Wrong way to approach God so we can know what NOT to do. 

Key points TO NOT DO;

• Self- Glorification- Praying to make myself Look good 
• Asking for the Wrong things- Making it all about ME
• Lack Faith- Not really Believe He can do it

Im sure we've all been there at one point, however, what is so amazing is that God always looks at our hearts! And The Word of The Lord brings transformation.  

The Legacy of Bold Faith

2 Corinthians 3:12 " Since we have such a hope, we are very bold."

We can be BOLD in the Lord! 

Do you want to see others around you carry on BOLD faith?

1. Make a Choice to live Bold Faith so there is a Picture for others to follow 
2. Invite others into BOLD faith by asking them to pray BOLD Prayers with you
3. Allow them to Share in the testimony & Provision of God's faithfulness 

Pastor Jack gives us these points to help us build our Faith and to help others build theirs as well. To conclude his were we are left with a question. What is your biggest need and whose faith can you help grow by inviting them to pray a BOLD prayer?

I CAN stand BOLD when going against the current when.....

• I know that my Trials have a Purpose 
• I Ask God to provide Wisdom for my present trial
• I Praise the name of God Despite of the size of my trial

Using imagery to help us visualize that WE CAN go against the current, Pastor Karla reinforces the truth of BOLD FAITH IN THE LORD!

Bold Faith in Impossible Situations

As we continue with the series titled BOLD, we are focused on the Bible verse 2 Corinthians 3:12 "since we have such a hope, we are very bold". 

In this sermon we are given two key points to maintain the faith in these rough times;

• I Unashamedly bring my concern to the feet of Jesus
• I Don't Fall into the negativity around me 

As Pastor Jack closes, we are instructed through the challenge to Read verse 50 outlaid to yourself every day and to surrender yourself at the alter if you need Bold Faith!

BOLD: How to tell satan to get BEHIND YOU!

We have a hope that is far greater than anything in the world and that is Christ Jesus!

We are given a few points and they are as follows;

1. I must make a Choice ‘
2. Be certain of what holds greater value
3. Focus on the reward

To conclude, we are given a challenge to expose our addictions and temptations to the lord. And secondly, to write it down and lay it at the alter of The Lord.
